1 Introduction

The Department of Statistics and Data Dissemination of the Municipal Data Office of the Barcelona City Council presents the figures for the resident population in the city of Barcelona obtained from the Municipal Register of Inhabitants: this document provides the reading as of 1 January 20261.

The first section contains a synthetic overview of the main results. Next, the essential population indicators are presented based on the characteristics of the individuals registered in the Municipal Register, such as sex, age, place of birth, nationality, educational level or the most frequent names.

The following section provides information on the population of foreign nationality and the foreign-born population registered in Barcelona. Next, the characteristics of residents’ registered dwellings are explored. Finally, the basic data on demographic movements (natural, migratory and administrative) for 2025 are analysed.

From a territorial perspective, this report addresses citywide and district-level data, with cartographic representations mainly by Basic Statistical Areas (AEB). The information is available for all official territorial levels of the city down to census section in the links referenced in the footnote.
